Michael's nomination story

Mike Wise founded our charity, Julia's House the Dorset Children's Hospice, in 1997 and was the leading light in ensuring that Dorset now has a much-needed support service for children with serious or terminal conditions. Mike was the charity's volunteer chairman from 1997-2009 and oversaw the constructon of the children's hospice and the establishing of a large and vital home visiting service. Mike also inspired a regular series of social events to support the children's brothers, sisters, mums and dads. Mike has Parkinson's disease, a burden he carries lightly and uncomplainingly. It would be a wonderful tribute to a kind, unselfish and popular man who has contributed enormously to the lives of many very ill children in Dorset (a county that will host the Olympic sailing events).
