because as the country's top over 70 long distance swimmer (73) I'm still competing internationally and training youngsters for this sport.become the oldest person to swim the English channel. I did it in 1960 and 1966 and still compete regularly worldwide this year Turkey Australia and next month I'm Guest of Honour at The Alcatraz International in San Francisco. At all events I'm usually the oldest and called on pre swim to give a rallying speech and promote open water swimming encouraging the youngsters to step up in what is the fastest growing sport in the world. I wrote a book in 2010 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of my 1st channel swim. I promoted it for The EllenorLions Hospices Dartford and raised nearly £22000 their biggest solo fund raiser. I plan 2012 World Champs. Italy 2013 Euro Champs. Ned. 5K taking two youngsters along my experience invaluable.
