Mike has done so much for so many children during his years as a teacher at Ballard School. He is no ordinary teacher, he is quite unique in the teaching profession and his impact upon the children is life changing. Mike always goes that extra mile:
'Care more than others think wise.
Risk more than others think safe.
Dream more than others think practical.
Expect more than others think possible.'
He reminds me of the English professor, John Keating (played by Robin Williams) in the film Dead Poet's Society, although Mike's passion is about developing the child rather than a love of poetry. He is such an inspirational person, dynamic and full of life and always incredibly positive. He is selfless with his time and energy and so attentive to each child's individual needs.
Mike not only provides children with the power of the English Language through his first class teaching, he gives the children three fantastic tools for their future life:
Confidence - Self belief - Motivation
In his many years of teaching, Mike has touched the lives of hundreds of children and ensured they are well equipped to:
'Meet the future with hope and courage, enthusiasm, energy and joy. From them they will build a life that is worth living.'
The children call him a 'Legend', to the parents he's a 'Saint,' it is an honour to nominate Mike to carry the Olympic flame and I cannot think of a more deserving person.
