At the age of 17, Mhairi's older brother was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This has meant that from a young age, Mhairi became a vital member of the household. She was best friend and part-time carer to Andrew, while helping look after the house as well as balancing all of her school work at the same time. The cure for ALL is an intensive 3-year chemotherapy regime, during which Mhairi also sat her fifth and sixth year exams at her Academy, completed a working gap-year and started her English Literature and Linguistics degree at Aberdeen Uni. As well as a frequent blood donor, Mhairi recently became a registered bone marrow donor for The Antony Nolan Trust. BP are proud to nominate Mhairi to be an Olympic torchbearer as she exhibits the Olympic qualities of excellence, respect and friendship.
