Matt's nomination story

Matt Short is one of the bravest people I know, that's why I'd like to nominate him to be an Olympic torchbearer. Matt's always been into sport whether it was rugby, tennis or playing football Matt's passion for sport was a big part of his personality. So when in November 2007 aged 16 he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma it was a huge shock. This led to chemotherapy & a below the knee amputation to remove a cancerous tumour. For someone as active as Matt to lose a limb & effectively lose his ability to play sport came as a massive blow. Last November at the start of his 2nd year of uni Matt's cancer came back & this time it was in his lungs. He began another course of chemo before having surgery on his lung to remove the tumour. He was in hospital for a final round of high dose chemo when he decided to set up a charity the 'Ewing's Sarcoma Research Trust.' Matt is now cancer free & is busy running the charity, organising events & has set up a football coaching scheme for children in the local area. This is proof of Matt's bravery & determination after all the pain & misery of cancer he still thinks of others before himself. I don't think he'd ever put himself forward but I want him to know that the bravery & resolution he has shown is a huge inspiration to those close to him & the community. I don't think I can ever explain or understand what Matt has gone through so it might be best if he explains it himself here's Matt's charity website: http://www.ewings-sarcoma.org.uk/
