Matt's nomination story

My son Matthew has been my true inspiration since being diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 17 months old. Sheffield Childrens Hospital became our home & our life for the next 2 years, whilst Matthew had chemotherapy & numerous operations. The cancer was cleared, but Matt was left with Hydrocephalus. Over the years Matt has remained strong & cheerful & has done many sponsered events (his main charity being -Wish Upon A Star) to help others in his similar situation. Matt still has to have regular check ups & operations when needed, and his last operation was just a year ago when his shunt snapped just 5 days before his first 'A' level ,causing him to miss his exams ,and lose his place at university. He is now hoping to go to Mancheter University this September to study Early Chilhood Studies, with a view of becoming a P.E teacher. I feel Matt would be a perfect example to carry the Olympic torch. He is young & has fought hard for his place in life and has proved that with sheer grit and determination anything is possible. He is certainly my hero of Olympic standard!
