Matt's nomination story

Matt Lloyd, born in West Sussex with spina bifida and two club feet, is an accomplished Paralympian dedicated to developing Sledge Hockey as a sport. Matt competed in Ice Sledge Hockey for Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Turin in 2006, and has also represented GB in Sitting Volleyball at European level.

He is currently chairman of the British Sledge Hockey Association, and is eager to ensure that Great Britain has an Ice Sledge Hockey team at the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014.

Matt is extremely passionate about all disability sport and is currently focussing his efforts locally here in Birmingham. He has established the 'Birmingham Winter Sports Community Foundation'; (BWSCF) a charity committed to providing sporting opportunities to young people who have physical or learning disabilities, and has recently supported the launch of a new Disability Badminton Club in the city centre.

From Jan 2012, Matt is aiming to run regular Ice Sledge Hockey and Ice Skating sessions at The Leisure Box facility in Birmingham.
