Matthew recently fulfilled a personal ambition of starting a new community football team. Since the team's election into the South Devon Football League, he has invested a huge amount of time and resource voluntarily in obtaining sponsorship, equipment and a pitch as well as filling out paper work and attending meetings all because he is so passionate about his cause - the clubs primarily set up is to accommodate players coming to the end of our football careers whose hearts are still in the game, but with legs that can't keep up, while also developing young 16/17 year old players who are looking at taking their first steps from youth football into senior level. The benefit of community sport is widely recognised for improving health, promoting social inclusion, active citizenship and reducing levels of youth crime and Matthew is confident of the positive impact this venture is having on the local area.
