Matt's nomination story

Matt is a Child Looked After who was lacking confidence, had extremely low self esteem and was at risk of social exclusion as he found difficult to cope with the pressures of being in care and that of his peers. Matt challenged his personal boundaries been introduced to a varied range of experiences since 2009 and it has met other young people from different area's who have the same/ similar issues. Matt is now capable to talk effectively to others in his peer group and has removed those personal barriers and made positive changes in the way he communicates with others boosting his confidence and raising his self esteem. Matt has acted as a Peer Mentor to others as a Child in Care he brings a unique perspective to the group by raising an awareness in relation to the positive changes he has made and that the future in not as bleak as he first thought. Matt is truly an inspiration of what can be achieved by removing the child in care stigma and changing the other people's perception of him. He has challenged physically and emotionally and Matt has grown in stature improving on his social skills building better relationships between peers, family and friends. Matt has successfully completed his GCSE's and is starting an apprenticeship as an electrician.
