My granny70spreads the word that no matter how old you can take part in sport. She competes in 10k races and runs around London every day. As I approached 70 I reflected on the next 30 years or so and how I would like to be aged 90. Twice widowed I live on my own in Hammersmith. All the research evidence confirms that daily exercise and a balanced diet improves the quality and length of life. I started to run in addition to dieting. A year later I have lost 3 stone changed my shape and can and do run about 6 K about 4 times as week as well as cycling and the gym. Healthy living has become a passion. I run by the river in the mornings and get loads of encouragement from those I pass and some strange looks too. I'm enjoying my new life and hope to keep it that way. To be a torch bearer would be an amazing honour and a way of including my generation in the Olympics.
