Marjorie's nomination story

Marjorie has been diagnosed with cancer and is bravely fighting the disease enduring various treatments at hospital. Despite the severity of her cancer Marjorie decided she wanted to give something back to society and has actively thrown all her time and energy into raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK. In 1999 she encouraged a team of friends and family to take part in a fundraising `Relay for Life` - an inspirational 24-hour overnight event that honours cancer survivors and celebrates life. The team enjoyed it so much they took part every year from 1999 to 2005 raising £63,729. In 2006 Marjorie took on the role of organising a `Relay` in her home town, bringing her team members, local residents, councillors and businesses together to beat Cancer and support the work of Cancer Research UK, raising a further £325,000. Marjorie is truly inspirational, dedicating many months to planning, organising and facilitating very successful events raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK. She is very highly motivated although modest about her fundraising efforts. She is a positive role model for all, especially those suffering from Cancer - spreading the message that there is HOPE.
