In January 2008 Martin lost his father to heart disease. He dealt with this tragedy by entering the Marathon Des Sables 2011, the toughest footrace on the planet. He did this to honour a promise he made to his father that one day he would complete it. Not deterred from his lack of running experience he completed the event this April. He raised nearly £3,500 for the British Heart Foundation via donations, fundraising nights & bag packing, all in memory of his Dad. Not satisfied with this accomplishment he now strides to complete bigger challenges, raise more funds for BHF to help with the fight against heart disease and help charities abroad. He has recently become involved with a charity in The Gambia to establish the first marathon festival in the country, The Brufut Run. He is passionate about combining sport with fundraising to help improve the lives of others.
