Martin excels at sport but is also an incredible leader and role model for the whole school - a real inspiration to staff and students alike. In Taekwondo he competes at national level, has had Olympic trials and was the youngest Young Ambassador to reach the final shortlist of 7 to attend Beijing 2008 as a guest of the BOC. It was a bitter disappointment to not be chosen but from this he learnt resilience and an even greater determination to be the best he can be. A tireless worker for charity he has raised thousands of pounds through organising charitable events such as a Lands End to John O'Groats cycle and three peaks challenge as well as delivering literally hundreds of hours of community service. He can deliver inspirational assemblies to over a 1000 students in which he describes his drive and passion for sport and his belief in its power to change lives sharing his successes and the challenges he has faced in equal measure. He is absolutely committed to be the best he can be in his academic studies, volunteering, leadership activities and in sport but this is always tempered with humility, good humour and unending charismatic "positivity". I cannot think of a better young ambassador for sport and the Olympic movement to carry the Olympic torch through Devon. F. Jarrett Headteacher
