Martin's nomination story

Dear Sir / Madam

I would like to nominate a very close friend of mine for the role of Olympic Torch Carrier in June 2012.

His name is Martin McNeill who was a Dentist and my former boss until a very unfortunate motor bike accident in February 2004 which left him paralysed from the waist down.

Despite this disability, Martin as anyone who knows him would say, has always remained upbeat positive and inspiration for all but none more so than his wife Lorraine and his three children.

He remains an active sportsman and has since his accident been skiing twice to Colorado, Canada and once to France as well. He has also been up Snowdon and going up again in July.

For Martin in his wheelchair to participate in the Olympic Torch Procession would be a fitting tribute for Martin and his family, as well as other disabled people. I can think of no-one who would deserve this honour more so. He embodies the Olympic spirit of taking part and encourages others to do so as well.

Martin is the secretary for MITRE, he teaches Wheelchair skills for the charity BackUp, and is a Governor of his old Grammar School. CR
