Martin Hulbert

Martin has raised thousands of pounds for a Leicester based charity Wishes4Kids which grants the wishes of terminally ill children. He was inspired to do this after his lovely wife was killed by a dangerous driver while cycling to meet him from work after only 18 months of marriage. They ran the London Marathon together in 2004 and she was killed later that year. Since then he has run the London Marathon every year and done a variety of fund raising efforts for the above charity including sky diving, dragon boat racing etc. He also donated all the proceeds from the Criminal Injuries compensation to the charity as his wife didn't believe in the 'compensation culture' He's an honest, upright, decent and principled man but also very modest, never discussing what he's done although he was extremely pleased about finishing this year's marathon under his target time of under 3 hours. He thoroughly deserves to be a torch bearer and I know he would be very very proud to do so. Russell Brickett, the founder of Wishes4Kids, also won the News of the World Children's Champion Award at Grosvenor House London on March 30th 2011 as it's a wonderful charity.We ran London Marathon together in 2003, not 2004. Didn't run London Marathon in 2007 due to injury so gave my work bonus to the charity instead.
