Mark's nomination story

I would like to nominate Mark Thomas, of Tonypandy, South Wales. His commitment and diligence in preparation to run the London Marathon this year ensured his success. He ran in memory of 2 friends who died prematurely, to raise funds for The Lung Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

In his career, as a Site Development Manager in the Construction Industry, he is professional, efficient, noticeably respectful and very helpful to customers. He often goes 'the extra mile'. One of many examples - after a particularly heavy snowfall on 16th December, 2010, many local roads were impassable. He walked 5 miles each way, in deep snow from Tonypandy to Gilfach Goch to hand over keys to a family due to move into their new home on Friday 17th December.

In his spare time, Mark has also constructed and erected a new external noticeboard for our Church, (the previous one fell into disrepair), donated building materials and given us information and specialist advice on necessary repairs to the buildings. His kindness has been invaluable; as our Church exists on voluntary donations only and we exist very much on a'shoestring'.

Mark would be exceptionally proud to be chosen to carry the Olympic Torch for his country. His selflessness and good humour is an inspiration to all and especially deserving of such an honour.
