Mark's nomination story

In June 2011, Mark, and a colleague he inspired, took part in the Mont Blanc Marathon, Chamonix in France.

The race is ran over cross country trails and up steep ascents at an altitude the same as that of Mount Snowdon and under the glare of sun which, on the day, was 31 degrees. Mark completed the race in just over nine hours after suffering from chronic leg cramp just over the half way stage, burning 11,000 calories and dropping a waist size. Amazingly, this was Mark's first marathon and he was one of 1,800 runners, many of whom far more experienced with Alpine running, to complete the race.

Mark has begun to set up a running club with his colleagues, using his personality to inspire, encourage and drive determination to get fit and healthy.
