Mark's nomination story

At the age of thirteen Mark joined the Air Cadets- 177 Squadron, Blackpool. Every year he has helped to sell poppies for the British Legion, helped with Veterans week and has done charity walks for St Dunstans. At just 16 he walked the Cumbrian way which was 85 miles all in 4 days, completely on his own and all in aid for the Help for Heroes charity, raising £2,233.82, also in aid for this he walked the coast to coast walk in 8 days which was 200 miles long again raising a staggering £1,178.23, he is a true inspiration. He has also helped raise money for Ghana in Africa where he walked the dales and raised £340 to help them get fresh water. In July this year, he will be pushing beyond his personal best, travelling to Ghana to help dig and lay pipes in order for the people living there to get this fresh water which is in desperate need. On September 18th 2011 Mark will be running the Great North run for the Christies charity and hopes to raise over £1000. As well as doing all of this Mark is in full time employment at just the age of 18 and won't be 19 until November this year.
