Manuel is an energetic, strong-willed 16-year old boy with history of complex cognitive and emotional issues. He has been diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis, ACD, ADHD, significant communication and behaviour difficulties. Manuel's early years were unsettled, leading to his grandparents becoming his permanent carers. By the age of 10 he changed 5 schools and was referred to CAMHS for further assessments. Manuel's shown a tremendous spirit and determination since he joined NCYPE in 2006. He's made huge strides towards managing his own behaviour, functional and social skills which impacted on a quality of his family life. Manuel enjoys a good laugh and thrives on opportunities to take on responsibilities. Manuel is now able to look forward to his future by joining the Sixth Form and choosing his options. Manuel had also received a Looked After Child Award presented to him by the Mayor of Croydon. Living in a Children's Home, Manuel has full time carers who help him to lead as normal a life as possible. He loves sports (yellow belt in Tai-Quan-Do), reading, foreign cultures, browsing internet and chatting with his friends. We strongly believe that Manuel truly deserves the honour of being the Olympic Torch Bearer for London 2012 games because: ?Along with own difficulties he also offers support and friendship to people around him; ?He set sets examples and inspires others in taking on life challenges; ?He is an ordinary boy with a very extraordinary life!
