Mandy's nomination story

Mandy was born to a prostitute and a client, she had an abused and neglected childhood. To escape her harsh life she started taking drugs, engaging in prostitution and robbing people. She went to prison several times and her children were taken into care. After she left prison she went to a rehab and broke her drugs habit. She never went back to crime or prostitution. She regained custody of her children and became a wonderful mother. She now works as a drugs worker in a London prison to help other women overcome similar problems to those she overcame herself. She volunteers with other charities and tells her story of hope all over the world to encourage others to overcome their own challenges. She is a founding trustee of Treasures Foundation, a new registered charity established to set up a home and support for women on their release from prison. She is a good friend to many.
