Malcolm became the Chairman at his local school's PTA in February and as a result, has worked really hard to develop good relations with the Head and Governors by helping directly with their challenges which centre mainly around maintaining educational priorities in the face of large budget cuts and other austerity measures.
Malcolm has spent several hours a week in his own time co-ordinating and recruiting scores of volunteers to run a series of fun events designed to bring together children, staff, parents and friends to have a great time and raise funds for the school. The events have been really well attended including a great summer fete where they took full advantage of the Lloyds TSB Local Hero scheme by inviting the excellent Sam Dobson (Badminton player) who provided an hour of coaching and sharing tricks of the trade to eager crowds of children and parents. Other events they have put on include a quiz evening, discos, abseiling and a sell out summer ball. The attendance and feedback has been excellent and made all the more rewarding when they counted the significant profits - over £12,000. This will go towards new play ground items and the re-build of two old teaching huts which are very much past their sell by dates.
