Mebz's nomination story

Mahboobur Rahman had an unsettled home and school life as a teenager, regularly being excluded for challenging and harmful behaviour. When he left school at the age of 16 he found himself directionless, with low aspiration and self esteem. After participating on Futureversity's 11 week Job Ready programme, Mahboobur grew in confidence and developed real, practical skills and developed interests that he never knew he had; as a result of this he was able to take control of his home and personal life and turn his future around. He identified that he had leadership skills and was able to influence and coach other young people. Mahboobur was offered an internship in the Futureversity head office when he finished the programme, supporting young people with their coursework to achieve an OCN accreditation as part of the course. 2 years later, he has worked his way up to Job Ready assistant, supporting the delivery of the range of employability programmes for 16 to 25 year olds. A highlight of his career so far was in auctioning his shoes alongside Dizzee who was doing the same thing at the 2011 Futureversity charity fundraiser. '?It was amazing to be standing beside Dizzee and both giving back to the charity that made such a difference to our lives'.
