Carrying the Flame on
Lucy's nomination story

In January 2010 my daughter Lola was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. She copes with daily chemotherapy, steroids and lumbar punctures without complaint. She inspires all who meet her.

Early in treatment Lola received many blood transfusions. Therefore we campaigned for more blood donors. Badgering everyone (including my Atkins colleagues!) and using the local press we have encouraged over 100 new donors.

We have also raised money for CLIC-Sargent a charity who supports children with cancer. We have shaved heads, held yoga events and along with seven Atkins colleagues I abseiled down Bristol children's hospital. To date we have raised over £17,000.

Our battle will continue long after Lola's treatment finishes. Everyday 10 families are told their child has cancer. I will never stop doing all I can to help support them.

The torch would be for my daughter, her brave friends battling cancer and would further raise awareness. CR
