Lucy's nomination story

Lucy Fellows is an amazing 14 year old. She suffers from a rare genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. This causes constant joint pains throughout the body and chronic fatigue amongst other ailments. She looks after her mother who suffers from a severe form of the condition. She makes a fantastic carer even though she is constantly suffering with her own issues. She has to make sacrifices in her own life to care for another while meeting her own challenges. As well as being a carer, she is an A* student at school even though she does struggle with attendance due to her health problems. She is an active member of the community being a member of Girl Guides and Rangers, a member of a local wildlife group. A passionate journalist she also writes regularly for the Vegetarian Magazine about issues on healthy living and vegetarian lifestyle. She would be a perfect representative to have the honour of being a torch barer as she is a wonderful example of youth overcoming adversity and meeting the challenges life can bring. CR
