Lucy's nomination story

Lucy began tennis at 6, when she joined Yarm Tennis Club. Then started to compete in tournaments and represented Stockton in Tennis at U-9/U-13 level, winning twice and recieving the Fair Play Award in the Youth Games. She has played for Yarm at junior ages in both AEGON National and Cleveland Leagues, helping her team to win many titles. She went to U14/U16/Ladies County Training. At school she represented Conyers in netball, hockey and volleyball. In 2008 she finished her Leaders Certificate which ment she can help out at Conyers Sports Days and local Primary events. She began helping at Yarm (12), and then finished her LTA Young Leaders at 13. The next two years she did over 300 hours of volunteering, as well as supervising her own group of kids and scoring matches. She enjoyed helping at Tony Blair Tournaments and at mini tennis leagues and the Deaf Schools Tournament. Because of this she received the Yarm Tennis Club Junior of the Year in 2009 and won Stockton Sports Young Volunteer of the Year in 2010. She won Durham and Cleveland LTA Junior Volunteer of the Year in 2010. In 2010 she completed her GCSE's and although found them hard, she always tries her best and was thrilled to get 10 GCSEs (including 7 A's). She was recognised by Conyers when awarded a KS4 Achievement Award (outstanding improvement) and the Ruth Grainge Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sport. She completed her Level 1 Coaching Award after her 16th birthday and is an assistant coach at Yarm.
