Lucy's nomination story

Lucy is 13 years old and has Down's Syndrome. She first got involved in the Within Reach disability sport project earlier this year. She takes part in sessions both in school and in the community. To the coaches who run the sessions she is simply the little star .Lucy has the ability and confidence to integrate with other children regardless of ability. She motivates others to participate and has patience with those that are finding tasks more difficult. Even though Lucy has been knocked back once or twice, she doesn't let this phase her and she's always willing to push herself and try something new. As part of the Within Reach sessions, Lucy's favourite physical activity is dance and she isn't afraid to perform in front of an audience! Lucy's biggest achievement has been representing her school, at this year's Movement Festival. Her favourite sport is football - she has been a season ticket holder at Sheffield Wednesday for about three years.

Lucy is very enthusiastic about Makaton signing in and consequently is often chosen to perform solos at school performances - 'sign and sing'. She's a determined character and won't get deterred even when the going gets tough. Lucy always has a smile on her face and she is an inspiration to both her peers and the coaches that work with her.

Lucy's always striving to achieve her own personal best, and in doing that she supports and encourages those around her to also go that extra mile. CR
