For 18 months in the run up to January 2011, Louise has given up most of her weekends and some evenings in preparation to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This resulted in Louise raising over £19k for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is an excellent personal achievement and one that will help a worthy charity.
On most weekends and the occasional evening Louise was either training in preparation for climbing Kilimanjaro or bag packing / holding Race Nights / Car Washing and numerous other fund raising events during an 18 month period. This has involved a lot of personal time and preparation for each walk or event with a lot of work with local communities to ensure full support received.
Each of the fund raising events has had some great support from the local community and increasingly raised the profile of the work Macmillan undertakes. The money Louise raised will be used to support the work Macmillan nurses undertake provide care and assistance to those suffering from Cancer and also support their relatives as part of this process.
Louise has been involved in a number of charity / volunteering activities through out her life from helping out with the Scouting and Guiding Movements to working with other HBOS colleagues and Habitat for Humanity to build a number of houses in Africa, however I think this has been the most challenging and rewarding activity she has undertaken to date
