In 1993, age 20, Louise experienced a stroke. Her world turned upside down. She lost her confidence and depended on others to support her with everyday tasks that you and I would take for granted - washing, dressing, getting out and about, driving, socialising, bringing up the children. Overtime, Louise turned her life around and10years after her stroke she began to volunteer with the charity 'Different Strokes' supporting other young stroke survivors to take control of their lives, build their confidence and regain as much independence as possible. In the last 8 years she has encouraged, supported and inspired many stroke survivors in Newport to address their inactive lifestyles, helping to not only prevent secondary strokes but improve balance, coordination, increase confidence, improve mood and self esteem. She is a real inspiration to stroke survivors young and old - one of the community's unsung heroes!
