Lisa is one of the rising stars of her profession making a real difference to research on dangerous viruses. She is also an academic leader who makes a contribution well beyond her field by encouraging and leading other academics engaged in important research. She is a popular staff member of the University who is seen to be approachable, friendly and always ready to help.Awarded First class honours degree in Medical Microbiology from University of Birmingham in 1990. Then worked in industry for Procter & Gamble in the UK and Belgium till 1995. Then decided wanted to pursue real love of microbiology research so undertook PhD studies in molecular virology, working with viruses such as foot-and-mouth disease virus, at the Institute for Animal Health and University of Kent; awarded PhD in 1998. In 1998 appointed Lecturer in Virology at the University of Surrey, then Senior lecturer, Reader and now Professor (2011). Outside of work she enjoys acting, singing and dancing.
