I would like to nominate my mother a an olympic torch bearer. She has always been a bight burning torch to her community and neighbours. She was part of a group that turned a notorious housing scheme into a much desired palce to live in, which generated a strong sense of community. She is always there for her neighbours, be it as a child-minder/dog sitter, happy to lend her gardening equipment. She will always put others before herself. Last year when she found out that a close neighbour was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she invited her into the family home to care and look after her during her last few months. It was an emotional journey, not made easy by the fact that my mother suffers from her own health problems. However she kept her neighbours spirits up during the darkest times. The nurses and carers who would pop by and said that they wished that there were more people like my mother in the world, then it would be a much better place. The olypmic torch represents strength, determination and pushing yourself in the spirit of humanity, my mother embodies these qualities. It would be an honour for her to carry the torch, a once in a lifetime opportunity that she truely deserves.
