Lilian's nomination story

Lilian has worked for local, worthwhile projects in the South West for forty years. She is one of the founding members and a Trustee of Exercising For Mobility (C.N. 1135054), set up eighteen months ago to provide opportunities for those who are disabled or who have life changing, long term health conditions. Four exercise sessions a week are held at The Parkhouse Centre in Bude, Cornwall and some 140 people are registered to take part. Aside from the benefit to the participants of the actual exercise, the social aspect is undisputable, especially to those suffering from depression. Lilian is a Diabetic and has early stage Parkinsons Disease. She has been a carer for some forty years, caring for her mother who had cancer and heart problems; her first husband died from Motor Neurone Disease having suffered for five years and her present husband has heart problems, Parkinsons Disease and Osteoporosis. Lilian is an inspiration to all those who have the pleasure to deal with her. Her drive and enthusiam for the exercise group is unstoppable and her work behind the scenes ensures that accounts and paperwork are dealt with in accordance with all relevant regulations. She shows considerable care, always mindful of individuals' needs and eager to help in any way she can. Should Lilian be selected to carry the Torch, it would high light the fantastic work our group does and demonstrate that people living with long term conditions can benefit from correct exercise.
