Lianne's nomination story

Lianne's great grandfather, Herbert Barnes was the first torch-bearer of the Olympic flame when it arrived from France, bound for Wembley, for the Games held there in 1948.

I've found an article on google that gives some more detail (unfortunately it's obituary) and we do still have the torch and photography of her great grandfather running with it.

Lianne has took part in number of charitable initiatives over the last few yesrs to include school building in Cambodia and climbing Kilimangaro. She dedicates her free time to ensure those more needed have someone, who cares. She works closely with a number of charitable organisations, to include Stroke Association and IHG Project Hammer.
