Les Freke

Les is the Chairman of Tintagel SurfLife Saving Club, having joined the club in 1974, he trained as a lifeguard and performed 99 rescues in his ten years of service. was also club captain at that time and became Chairman in 1984. is also an instructor and examiner for The surf Life Saving Association and spends a good deal of his time supporting other local Clubs.His experience and dedication is a real inspiration to all current and and past members and his work over the years has ben of true value to many young people in the area. Weekly. he runs the Nippers (8-13yrs) on Friday evenings and Junior/Senior(14yrs+)on Sunday mornings. as well as attending County meetings on behalf of the club and additional time spent examining for members of other clubs. He runs annual events such as sponsored swims, night hikes a float for local carnival as well as taking members to county competitions.Behind the scenes he also works tirelessly to ensure that these sessions run with relevant activities for both age groups.Les recruits from small local primary school to train childrern from the age of 8yrs to gain a healthy respect for the ocean and operate surf life saving skills in a dangerous environment.It is his tenacity in keeping the club going that has enabled hundreds of local children and adults to participate and be safe in their leisure time He encourages and inspires young people,many stayed to work locally as lifeguards.Les also finds time to be a First Responder for us!
