Auntie Lesley, lives on the Isles of Scilly and is a key member of the community, she runs the only dance school on the islands and has done for over 30 years. She teaches the children ballet, tap, modern and acrobatics enabling them to take exams and progress through their formal grades. She produces a couple of shows a year and makes the majority of the costumes herself. My auntie is the reason I became a dance teacher she has inspired me to do the same from a young age and my dance school has now been running for 10 years! If it wasn't for her help, support and training I would not be doing this now. Lesley loves to dance and pass on her love to her students. She runs The Scilly Bees line dancing club and is also a Guider and has run the 1st Isles of Scilly Guides since she was 18, along with her assistant guiders. This has given the girls opportunities to take part in international camps and adventures. Although she is now semi-retired she still works part time as an assistant therapy practitioner and is a member of committees for elder care whilst specialising in rehabilitation therapy. All the voluntary hours within the community she did whilst holding down a full time job I feel now that her hard work should be recognised. This would be the perfect way of saying thank you as she is the biggest Olympic fan I have ever met and she was very disappointed not to get any tickets. If the torch can't come to the islands can a special person from the islands carry the torch!!
