Lesley Martin

I am nominating Lez to be a Torchbearer for her dedication to the local community. Lez gave up her career in London when we had children. She has been an amazing mother and has used her skills to work across the community supporting not just one organisation but the key foundations that make communities work. At the School she is a Governor and has been for a number of years, but she's also involved in supporting the PTA in collecting voluntary donations, organising lifts for trips etc. At Church Lez is a sidesperson during family mass but she also helps at all the charitable events to raise money for the church; runs the Creche Rota for the Under 5's and is a leader at the Sunday Club. As well as her commitment to the School and Church, over time Lez has been key to organising many other community activities including organising teams to run in the Race for Life to raise money for Breast Cancer Research; Running the bookings for the local village Pavilion to help raise funds to maintain its essential services to the village; and was a member of the local Fete committee who managed to get the Chipstead village fete up and running again after a number of years when it simply did not happen. I nominate Lez as she represents the thousands of mothers across the country who give up successful careers to bring up children and dedicate their skills to the greater good of the community that their children grow up in dedicating hours of their time with little recognition.
