On Friday 13th August 2004 my wife Lee , aged 43 had surgery to remove an 8cm Dukes C tumour from her colon. A week earlier we had moved to our new home in the Cotswolds with our children Oliver 13 & Eve 10.Diagnosed just the day before, it proved imperative to operate before the tumour metastasised. Her life would undoubtedly have ended prematurely.30 weeks of chemotherapy followed; she called it her 'Life giving spring'. Her immense courage, bravery & determination inspired & amazed family, friends and BA colleagues. Lee insisted on living life as normally as possible and continued flying as cabin crew when she felt strong enough. By 2009, Lee was cancer free! Joy was tempered by the loss of both her parents?just11 weeks apart?a few months earlier. The trauma, as an only child, was hard for her to bear. Even today she struggles with her loss. On September 11th 2012, we celebrate 25 years of marriage. Our lives are returning to normal. We have so much to be grateful for. This year Lee volunteered to work with the charity 'Home start'. She finds this incredibly rewarding as she wants to give something back to the community who were so supportive during her illness. I can only begin to imagine how enormously proud & privileged Lee would be to have the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch next year-in celebration of her life, in memory of her parents & as an inspirational ambassador of BA
