Lee's nomination story

Lee set up the local basketball club as a schoolboy because there wasn't any basketball available in Ceredigion at the time. Twenty years later Lee is still an inspiration and basketball is stronger than ever. He has tirelessly dedicated himself to improving the club, the players, himself as a coach and basketball in the region. Lee is chairperson of our league, a role he uses to promote the sport to his full abilities. Lee loves to coach all levels from three year olds to senior players, womens and mens. He has coached hundreds of children through the local schools. Each summer he runs a high profile basketball camp, aiming to attract new players to the sport and to develop new talent. His work has improved the community by helping youngsters to focus their energy and aspirations through sport. He is a very personable coach and very well respected too. He is head coach for the women's junior national teams. He does all this voluntarily. His latest passion is in setting up wheelchair basketball so that more people can access the sport, and therefore help to improve their physical, social and mental wellbeing. Everytime Lee is out in public somebody will come up to him and ask how the basketball club is doing. Lee always commends the players and their achievements, and promotes the club. I feel that Lee should be commended for his efforts and achievements in setting up and running the club. I know that Lee would be extremely proud to be an Olympic torch bearer.Lee set up the local basketball club at the age of 17 because there was no basketball available in Aberystwyth & surrounding areas.
