Leah's nomination story

Leah Bristow is an exceptional 16 year old girl; a superb role model for a citizen of the Big Society. Last year her school created a special, new award just for Leah to recognise her outstanding contribution to the school and wider community. This award represents the highest honour it can bestow. She has represented school, club and district in athletics, netball, rounders and basketball and is a Sports Leader in the Boston and District Academy. She is an outstanding flautist who has directed and conducted her own Woodwind Ensemble. Leah is chairperson of a local voluntary youth group having been a reliable and committed member since its inception in 2006. In 4 years she has never missed a monthly meeting or an event. She always puts others before herself and with her boundless energy she manages to pack into one day what any other person would take a week to do. She is a real inspiration. Leah does not come from a privileged background - far from it - every achievement has come about through dogged determination, resilience and drive. Everything she does she does with joy, fun, and laughter but she also knows when to be serious and hard working so she can be the best that she can be. I have been her teacher, mentor, friend and guide - she has rewarded me with loyalty, commitment and respect.
