Lawrence's nomination story

It is my privilege to nominate the most inspirational person I have ever met to be a London 2012 torchbearer. Working as a cancer exercise trainer I came across Lawrence Stewart, 33 years old, when he enquired about an exercise class. Lawrence was first diagnosed with cancer when he was 13 years old in 1990. Since this initial diagnosis he has received treatment and surgery for over 10 tumors. This includes 3 brain tumors, tumors in both lungs and his liver among other sites. Battling through temporary paralysis, having parts of both lungs removed and receiving pallitative treatments prior to brain surgery to make sure he could be there for the birth of his second child embody the courage and strength this guy has. With a background as a professional golfer Lawrence doesn't know how to quit. He has organised and participated in fundraising events to raise over £15,000 for cancer charities, giving back to the people who have supported him almost his whole life. No one deserves this more than Lawrence, he is a born sportsman, has overcome everything thrown at him, gives back to the community and above all wants to avoid his mate getting bragging rights if his golf handicap falls below 15! A genuine guy, with a big heart. Vote Lawrence!
