Laura's nomination story

Laura can be described as a 'doer' She was educated in Lincoln and went on to Uni where she studied 2 different subjects Following her studies she trained to be a paramedic, a job she has done for the last 5 years based in Lincoln. She will shortly start mentoring a student at Sheffield Hallam Uni. In 2009 she volunteered to go to Kenya for a month to work in the Wema Clinic. She was so appalled by what she saw that she vowed to return. Over the next 12 months Laura raised £5,000 and returned in 2010 for a further month. She purchased an Ultra Sound Scanner direct from China which she gave to the clinic. The balance of the money was used for tiling the floors to make the removal of blood stains easier, perimeter fences etc. This will improve the lives of around 1500 people who cannot afford to go to hospital. Part of her fund raising was at RAF Cranwell. On her return she gave a report and they were so impressed with her that they have invited her to return in 2011 with some RAF personnel. She is already planning a further trip to Kenya but to another area. Laura has spoken to our Rotary club and we have ben so impressed that we have nominated her to represent Rotary on a group study exchange visit to the USA in 2012. She has been accepted. I strongly recommend Laura to you.
