Kirsty's nomination story

Kirsty is a 16 year old girl who has cerebral palsy. She has unfortunately been in care a big part of her life and was essentially wheelchair bound for most of this time. However since being fostered by the McMenemy's she has gone from strength to strength and her courage amazes us all. Since being with them she has hardly used the wheelchair, as John & Sue asked her if she could get about without it, to which she stated she never wanted to use it ! She falls often, but just picks herself up and continues on. She joined the Irvine DofE group that I volunteer with and has embraced the principles of the Award, helping lead a girls brigade group, learning Karate and learning a musical instrument. The expedition proved a challenge, as she cannot walk the 6 miles plus that is required, however we worked with her and got an electric trike that she can use in the hills. Fantastic!
