Kevin Blackburn volunteers as a Community First Responder. He's also pioneered a project in his office to increase volunteers and expertise in first aid.
Community First Response is part of the Yorkshire ambulance service - giving on call first aid support.
Since July 2008 Kevin has helped at a large number of incidents ranging from giving support by giving TLC talking to patients and their families to treating unconscious casualties and giving CPR a number of Cardiac and Respiratory Arrests.
As well as his formal training Kevin continues to add to his experience and skills with Yorkshire Ambulance Ser vice. He covers various medical conditions in depth so he has a fuller understanding of those conditions, such as Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart Rhythms and related issues etc. Kevin works with the paramedics on the job by being a responder and observing in his own time to learn more around patient treatment; and promoting recovery by being an observer with the 999 Call Desk, Rapid Responder (RRV) and Ambulance Crews. His observer role means he attends many types of incident over and above those he would attend in the role of Community first responder.
Following a First aid incident in work Kevin decided to lead a project to improve skills within Lloyds Banking Group and increase community volunteers. As a result of his project 25 new community volunteers have been trained by Yorkshire Ambulance Service and a further 25 are being funded by Lloyds Banking Group. All these colleagues will be able to use Defibrillators and oxygen.
Kevin has Made a Difference by using his own passion for supporting his community to inspire others to get involved in supporting their community and develop life saving skills CR
