My Dad has been involved in Athletics all his life starting by running for Birchgrove Harriers, Cardiff (still holds a Welsh record for 4x1 mile) and continues to support Welsh athletics. He has kept formal statistics for Welsh athletics on a voluntary basis for more than 10 years which is essential for record keeping purposes and it also assists the selectors in picking the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games. He gives up his time during both the outdoor and indoor seasons to organise local athletic meetings as well as officiate (various roles) in these meetings. Some of these meetings mean travelling up to 50/60 miles both ways. He has also organised training for new officials to make sure that the local meetings have enough officals to therefore allow the meetings to take place. Carrying the Olympic torch would be the pinnacle of his athletics career and he thoroughly deserves it.
