Kelly's nomination story

Kelly is described by her friends and family as caring, compassionate, charismatic and kind. This may not seem so extraordinary until you discover that Kelly was born with Downs Syndrome. Just a few of Kellys attributes and acheivements: - Kelly learnt to walk, talk, read and write far sooner than predicted. - Kelly is part of the Special Olympics team in Enfield and has represented England at an International event in Athens. - Kelly has completed her travel traing programme and now travels independently to many places - Kelly has a part time paid job at the Learning Disability Employment Team in Enfield which she does well. - Kelly is a volunteer with one-to-one (a registered charity which supports adults with learning disabilities) and regularly volunteers at events both in planning and preparing for the event and supporting the individuals taking part. - Kelly is currently participating in a 'Training for Change' programme which will enable her to be a peer tutor. - Kelly takes an active role at home and enjoys cooking for her family or helping another family member to cook. - Kelly has many friends and her peers say that they enjoy being with Kelly because she is confident, chatty, patient and friendly. In short Kelly is a truly inspirational person who (as her brother describes) 'gives everything a go with her head held high and a smile on her face.' I, and many others think that Kelly would make a great torchbearer and there is no one who deserves it more.
