Keith's nomination story

Keith has promoted English Tradition for nearly thirty years. He has brought great pleasure to many people through his revival of two major english customs. Both events bring visitors to the town, expanding the tourist season. Firstly, the Jack in the Green custom spans the first May bank holiday. Traditional music and dance through the weekend culminate in a joyous procession of colourful characters including the largest collection of giants in the country following the 'Jack'. He has published a book on this internationally important event. Secondly, in October, the Hastings Bonfire procession is recognised as the second largest in the county. Sussex Bonfire processions are a noisy unbroken tradition incorporating large bonfires and fireworks. His driving force has been a desire to promote English customs using his expertise of Morris Dancing, Mummers Plays, Folk Music, Song and Dance. His knowledge and work is internationally recognised.
