Keith Bray and Calum Macleod set themselves a fundraising total of £5,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation which they increased over time to £7,500, £10,000 then to £15,000 in 2011. They have currently raising £19,091.47 and are aiming for £20,000. A figure like this is very rarely raised, and they are one of JDRF's top London Marathon fundraisers for 2011. Their figure is even more impressive, given they raised this all through community events (i.e. bag packs, curry takeaway nights, quiz evenings, eighties night, organised a school fun run etc) rather than relying on the wealth of friends/family/work colleagues as many of our top fundraisers do. Keith completed the London Marathon in 4:07:11 and Calum finished in 03:44:35. I think they deserve to carry the Olympic Torch because they are fine examples of our island community, as they have been an inspiration to us all this year. The figure is especially impressive considering that the Western Isles, by all accounts, is a rural, sparsely populated area. It is a triumph for all of us. The final total raised for JDRF was £22,000 for which recieved a platinum award certificate from JDRF
