Kazimieras Budrys

From childhood, Kazimieras Budrys has never been able to imagine his life without sports, and basketball has always played a leading role in his life. He was part of the Lithuanian championship team in 1962 and won a silver medal in the World Basketball Championship of Veterans in 1995. These are his favourite victories, and he is still inspired by them in the work that he does. Kazimieras once found himself in a dispute with a friend about whose family was better at basketball. This inspired him to organise the Family Basketball Tournament, which is unique in the world and has lasted for 35 years. Kazimieras organised the whole initiative, and hundreds of participants take part internationally each year. A few years from now, the European Championship will be held in Lithuania. When all generations of a family come together to compete, Kazimieras knows that he has fulfilled his mission to use sports so as to strengthen the very significant part of the nation that is families.
