Katie's nomination story

On behalf of Whickham School and Sports College I would like to nominate Katie to be an Olympic Torchbearer. Katie's story starts with her outstanding self-belief. With this she has shown others how, with hard work and determination, people can achieve their goals. Five years ago Katie joined a local Karate club. In this short time Katie has earned her black belt, won bronze and silver medals at national events and has recently been selected for the England National squad, a remarkable achievement! Katie has also turned her achievement into inspiration. She has proved to be an outstanding role model to young people both in school and out, and through coaching has helped empower others to take part and achieve. At her club Katie volunteered to coach infant and junior age children in Karate. She has built a particularly strong rapport with the infants, and has instilled her ethos of self- belief and determination. Recently two of the infants who Katie has worked with competed at a National event. In school Katie is exemplary in effort, always striving to do her best. We feel all her qualities combined make her an outstanding candidate for our nomination. i showed determination, not self-belief
