Katie-Jaine is my step-daughter and regularly has to act as my carer (I have Multiple Sclerosis). At a recent local branch meeting it was mentioned that collectors were required at a local shopping centre. Katie-Jaine said I will be in school holidays that day I could help out . When she arrived at the centre at 8.30 she was the only person there (although all the tins, balloons etc were in the community office). Rather than wait (as a normal teenager might) she got the security guards to help her move the tables out of the office, and set about collecting for a further 2 hours before the main volunteers arrived where upon she stayed collecting for another 4 hours. As she had just turned 16, days before, I feel this willingness to give her time, rather than spending it with her friends going around the shopping centre, requires some sort of acknowledgement.
