My good friend Kate is passionate about sport and believes wholeheartedly in its power to shape and transform the lives of young people. Sport has always been a comfort to Kate in the more difficult times in her life and perhaps because she recognises what it has given to her, she tries to share it with as many people as possible. She spends her weekends as a hockey coach for youth teams and has given her summer holidays to training camps and sporting events. Even in her professional career she has chosen to work for an organisation that seeks to promote awareness of the Olympics and the values it represents to young people in College and University. During our university years Kate was a voice and face for women in sport. She served as the Sports Federation President and fought tirelessly for the funding and profile of sport, particularly in it`s under represented forms. Since then I`ve seen her spend endless evenings planning out fundraising strategies for teams she plays for and even those she doesn`t. This is not to mention all the time she gives to working with young people through the Sea Cadets. Kate embodies the spirit and values of the games much in the same way she lives her life, pursues her passions and dedicates her time. I know that bearing the Olympic torch would mean the world to Kate and I can`t think of anyone more worthy of the honour. She`s inspired hundreds of young people and she inspires me too! I know that bearing the Olympic torch would mean the world to Kate and I can`t think of anyone more worthy of the honour.
